Renovation and conversion of a 200 year old farm house into a villa-type hotel in Nagano, Japan. We restored a traditional thatch peasant home by using only locally harvested natural materials such as woods, stucco, bricks and earth wall while applying modern techniques to improve livability and functionality. The project and construction was supported by the local community, especially the roof was restored with the help of the only remaining thatching craftsman in the region. By this, we believe we gave the house another 200 years of life span.
