The best first-year student group work from a week-long “Tropical Envelope” design workshop at the National University of Singapore (NUS) was installed as a pavilion for the Marina Bay iLight Festival. Funding was limited, so the graduate students of Curating Architecture collaborated by launching a crowdfunding campaign. As a result, S$25,000 was raised in one week. This was enough to fund the construction of the pavilion. The iLight Marina Bay Festival is supported by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), the government’s urban planning agency, which promotes public events to enliven urban life. After this year, many NUS students have participated in the festival, and the student teams they mentored have won awards at the festival every year.
